The Little Things
Over the years, I’ve sat with many people in their final days.
When life becomes fragile and time feels sacred, something shifts. The conversations change.
The priorities change.
No one talks about their bank account.
No one talks about promotions or possessions.
They talk about the present moment.
They talk about the way sunlight feels on their skin.
The sound of someone’s laugh.
The smell of their favorite meal.
The warmth of someone holding their hand.
They talk about touch.
About breath.
About being here.
It has taught me something I can’t ignore: when everything else falls away, it’s the small, human
moments that matter most. And when times are hard, when life feels overwhelming or uncertain,
sometimes it’s those same little things that can bring steadiness back.
Not because they erase pain.
But because they remind us we are still alive inside of it.
The little things don’t fix everything.
But sometimes they are enough to carry you through the next hour.
And sometimes, that’s all we need.

The way morning light slowly moves across a wall before the day fully begins.
The soft flicker of a candle in a quiet space.
Steam rising from a warm mug in your hands.
The sky changing colors at sunset, even on an ordinary day. Magic.
The way rain makes the pavement shine.
A pet resting peacefully, completely at ease.
The small, brief smile of a stranger passing by.
Snow falling slowly, softening the edges of everything it touches.
Waves moving in and out of the ocean…steady and rhythmic.
Warm water running over my shoulders in the shower after a long day.
A slow inhale that fills my lungs completely.
Cool air brushing my face when I step outside.
The steady rhythm of my heartbeat when I place my hand on my chest.
Sunlight warming my skin for a moment.
Rain tapping softly against a window.
The low hum of a fan in a dark room.
A song that feels like it understands something deep in you.
Leaves rustling in the wind.
A familiar voice saying my name.
The first sip of something warm.
The smell of rain in the air.
Cookies or something yummy baking in the oven.
A familiar comfort meal.
The scent of soap after washing your hands.
